Sunflowers for Days

Boots: Tony Bianco, Dress: Trollied Dolly

I've been wanting to share these outfit photos for a while now but had to hold my horses so I wouldn't ruin a surprise. I mentioned in my last post that for my Mum's 50th birthday, my brother, sister and I got some professional photos taken to frame and give to her. We arranged it all in secret and the three of us gathered in Newcastle a month or so ago to have the photos taken. Since I was somewhat dressed up I decided to get my brother to take a few quick photos of me for the blog. I was going to post them straight away but my sister thought I'd better not as Mum, who reads this blog, might start to wonder what was going on (she would have recognised the background and perhaps wondered why I was sort of dressed up for a Saturday. I'm a pretty casual gal most of the time!). I will share the pro pics soon!

Anyway, I got this dress for Christmas (from Mum!) from a gorgeous store in Newcastle called Misskonduct. They sell one-of-a-kind dresses with a 50s/rockabilly flare and only a limited number of each design. It has fast become one of my favourites!

Feeling Fruity

Miss Shop blouse and Levi shorts

Happy Saturday! It's a beautiful day here in Sydney. I think summer is not quite ready to leave which is fine by me. Just snapped these photos while enjoying the sun on our balcony this morning. I'm off to a wedding soon but not as a guest. I'm helping my friend Linda by taking some photos of the dessert tables and other event styling she will be creating. More on that soon!

Autumn Wish List

Welcome to Polyvore!

It was actually sort of painful creating this set because I am dedicating all my energy into saving for my fast approaching trip to America at the moment. Nonetheless, I've been dreaming up a wish list of these items for a while now and though I'm afraid I won't be swimming in spending money when I get to the US, I figure I'll be able to buy some of these items or similar on the cheap. I haven't bought anything for myself in so long!

I kind of wish that I could have the backpack and camera bag before I leave, but it makes sense for me to look for them when I'm there as they'll most likely be cheaper. Actually, now that I've said that I really want to get the backpack before I go because you know, traveling and stuff. Makes sense yeah?

I've put those gold rings on there because I actually had a set of my own and stupidly left them in Melbourne on my recent trip. Quite devastated. I got them at the Brooklyn Flea markets when I was there last year, so I'm pretty sure that's a good enough excuse to go back in a couple of months! And to eat a blood orange doughnut from Dough at Smorgasburg, of course.

As for the red knit jumper, well it's now technically off the wish list because I happened upon one at Coles (yes, the supermarket) yesterday! It was only $25 and my dear parents put it in the trolley as a gift for me. For the price it looks quite warm and cosy so I'm looking forward to some cooler Autumn days.

Girly Saturday

Top: Cotton On, Skirt: Cotton On, Boots: Tony Bianco, Glasses: Emporio Armani, Bag: The Iconic (possibly an Alexander Wang knock-off)

Welcome to my first official outfit post. What an exciting day it is! Ben and I went out for breakfast this morning and I managed to convince him to take a few photos of me outside our apartment. I went for the element of surprise, sneakily grabbing my camera before we left and quickly turning to him to say 'Babe, can you just take a few photos of me here?' before he had time to think about what was going on. Sucker! I think I'll try this tactic more often.

Apart from whatever is going on with my hair, I think I did okay for my first outfit post. It all happened very quickly! This skirt/top combination is one I haven't tried before. The items themselves are nothing fancy - the top was a Christmas present last year and the skirt I scored from a work colleague who was trying to get rid of clothes a few months back. These boots have been serving me very well, though. They've just returned from the doctor's (ahem..boot repairer) because I somehow managed to lose the cap off the bottom of one heel without even realising. It wasn't until I was walking on some tiles that I noticed one shoe was making an odd hollow sound. Don't have any idea when or where I lost the cap, but I'm pleased to have my favourite booties back and in good nick again.

Have a happy weekend, comrades!

Veronica and Ming

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending my manager Veronica's wedding. It was my first Asian wedding - she is Vietnamese and her new husband, Ming, is Chinese. The ceremony was held at Bicentennial Park and thankfully the heavy rain of Friday night let up on Saturday morning and the sun came out for the rest of the day (note our squinty eyes). The reception was a huge affair with around 400 guests and a 12 course traditional Chinese dinner. Yes, 12! I had a heap of fun celebrating with my work mates and Ben. In fact I danced a little too hard and am experiencing extreme muscle pain in my legs and arms today. I never thought I'd say it but I feel like I may have done a bit too much fist pumping for one night.

As you can see V (as we affectionately call her) looked absolutely stunning! She had kept the details of her dress and head piece a complete secret at work so we were all super excited to see her. The dessert table pictured was styled by another colleague, Linda. You can check out her work here. Unfortunately I didn't get to sample many of the goodies on the table because people started lining up for dessert before all the main courses had been served! Nonetheless, I had a fantastic time. Congratulations V and Ming :)

My outfit details: Quirky Circus dress, Kimchi Blue heels from Urban Outfitters, bag used to belong to my Grandma.

Packing Sneak Peak

Just a little sneak peak into my luggage for my trip to the USA. I started getting things out this morning because although I still have a week until I leave, I know I am going to be really busy up until then.

As the first part of my trip is for work I have to think about appropriate work outfits that can also be dressed down for the holiday part. Lots of light-weight blouses seem to be the go. It's going to be nice and warm over there and I can't wait! My two polka-dot bikinis are ready for the California coast.

Knowing how many pairs of shoes to take is always a struggle for me. I may even take out the brown pair of heels and look for a versatile pair over there as shoes are so much cheaper.

And no, this is not everything I will be taking. I did about four loads of washing yesterday so there is plenty more to come!

Spectacles

Hello! I got a new pair of glasses this week which is very exciting. I've been wearing glasses my whole life. I got my first pair when I was about 18 months old. When I was little all of my glasses had special wire that curved around my ears so I wouldn't take them off. I think my Mum still has a box of all my old glasses somewhere - I'll have to dig them out. I now wear contact lenses as well, but it's exciting to get some new frames. Here you can see me (and my brother Sam) when I was about 2 years old in some very trendy frames. See, I was wearing oversized glasses before they were cool! Ha.

I hope you are all having a lovely Saturday. This morning I took Ben to the airport as he is off to Hobart for four days. I'm all on my lonesome at home and I've already done all the washing and cleaning so now I'm trying to figure out what to do! Guess I will just have to enjoy some 'me time'. A bubble bath might be in order :)

Sunday Brunch

Boots - Tony Bianco, Shorts - Levis, Belt - vintage from my Grandma, Shirt - Zara, Cardigan - Urban Outfitters

A quick outfit post from what I wore out to brunch today. Again - crappy photos sorry! I met up with a friend and had brunch at Kitchen by Mike in Rosebery. I'd been meaning to go there for a while now. It's a new-ish restaurant that has been set up in the same warehouse as a furniture and homewares shop called Koskela. I really liked the style and vibe there - cafeteria dining with a rustic twist.

I was pretty happy with this outfit that I quickly put together this morning. The cardigan from Urban Outfitters is super warm and comfortable - probably one of my favourite ever purchases. Believe it or not I don't actually own tonnes of clothes, but the ones I own I love and wear often by mixing and matching. I tend to do wardrobe culls pretty often and as I've moved house quite a lot in the last year I've ended up with less clothes each time. I still manage to fill more than my share of mine and Ben's wardrobes (we have a spare room too with another wardrobe) but hey, I'm a girl!

That said I've bought a few new things lately which wasn't the plan seeing as though I'm supposed to be saving for America. Anyway, I snapped up these Tony Bianco boots off The Iconic last week. I'd been eyeing them off for a long time but managed to control myself until now and thankfully they were one sale. I figure I will wear them a lot and they are comfortable enough to walk long distances in without killing my feet! The shirt is a new purchase from Zara. I've already worn it a few times and can wear it out to see friends as well as to work - so I think it's a good investment.

Anyway, I hope you've had been enjoying your weekends wherever you may be!

Goodbye June

Wow, I can't believe we're at the end of June already! I feel like the older I get, the quicker time flies. I have mixed feelings about entering into July, as it means it's only a month until I head overseas but then I have so much to do before I leave. I'm sure I'll get it all done...somehow.

It was quite a warm morning and Ben and I decided to get some sun and took a walk up to our local coffee shop. I had to plead with him to take this photo of me! I am going to have to do a bit of arm twisting once I get my new camera and start doing proper outfit posts. Anyway, I will tackle that when the time comes.

I'm wearing: American Apparel skirt, Sportsgirl jumper, American Apparel shirt (underneath), Urban Outfitters bag, Ray Ban sunnies and shoes from a little boutique in my hometown.

I'm now counting down the hours until my little sister and her boyfriend arrive. They are visiting for the night so we have stocked up on cheese and biscuits and all sorts of goodies. Should be great! Have a happy weekend. xo
